1974 VW Westfalia – Subaru 2.5L Auto

This came fresh from the paint shop and will be getting reassembled along with a Subaru, automatic conversion.

One of the set backs with this one is the fact that the cabinets ended up missing in the lengthy paint process that this bus has been through with two painters.

Sorting through the parts and starting to get a couple seals, windows, and parts where they go

The engine was said to be in good running shape, but has sat for awhile, is going to need a tune up and good cleaning.

All the parts available to put things together

With a little patience, the bus starts to come back together again.

The top was removed to paint the exterior, but they skipped the roof and inside the pop-top.

The hinges were straightened and washed with acid along with the retaining trim around the bottom of the tent.

The top was cleaned up and a couple repairs were done to the front bow to reattach the corners.

Everything was chemically cleaned and primed.

The tricky part was to leave a space where I could climb in the center to get the bottom of the front bed support rail. The interior was painted bright white previously, and it was masked off around the top, as was the support rail. It was the original silver-beige, and the only thing that color left.

Seals, hardware, luggage rack, tent

An easy way to set the top: Removable top lift for your Blazer, Bronco, or Jeep. Original camper tags for the Bus.

Stretched tent. It was left up the whole time everything else was assembled to let the fabric relax.

All the little things were addressed: Electrical, door latches, everything tightened, adjusted, interior cleaned out.

The engine had an oil change, tune-up, and rebuilt carburetor.
