1969 Road Runner – Passenger Side Quarter and Door

There was rust all along the bottom of the quarter, and the rear had already been trimmed a bit when the trunk floor was done to do repairs on the tub. The corner of the back window had rust as did the front portion of the rocker.

The door alignment was set to the quarter and front fender before removal.

The lower rocker had a few spots that needed repair once cleaned, and the corner of the glass needed a few layers rebuilt.

The rust was cut out, the lip was fabricated with the other two pieces fit and aligned to position.

There was some rust in the sail panel lip that needed a piece bent to fit.

Once the rust was repaired, the inner panels were cleaned up with abrasive wheels, panels painted, and lips sprayed with weld through coating.

The quarter didn’t fit as nice as the other side, and will need a little more finesse to fit properly. The rear deck was welded and filled in various places along the window edge, and was replaced.

The quarter fits better to the replacement, but will still need a little work. Most of it is finding where the quarter is hanging up on things and trimming a little here, and there to get things to slide in where you need them. The other part is reshaping edges from the stamping to the correct shape to make thing fit together.

With everything in places, the quarter is removed for the . . . Well, who knows how many times it’s been on or off, I lost count, but it’s removed and undercoated before being hung the last time.

The door and fender are installed, aligned, and the quarter pulled to where it needs to go. The taillight panel was out of shape, rusted in spots, and needed to be replaced. The bezel didn’t fit very well with the original as you can see.

The panel was welded from the front to the rear like the other side, and the splash panel was welded once I was at the back

The rear of the car looks a lot better, and now that trunk really stands out. I was able to get all the panels to gap and align like they should with some patience.

Tail light bezels, trunk, rear deck from a few angles.

Door and sail panel came together nicely, and . . .

. . . the rear window fit as it should. Now that the rear of the car is done, it’s on to the front end.
